The Importance of Early Reading

13/1/2016

This little boy in the video is around 15-18 months. Just wanted to share the reality of such a young child who already knows what books are about, has already learnt about the name of a new book (3 days only) in the house, can choose that particular one from many, knows the front page, back page and where one starts and where it finishes. He understands that there is text on each page and 'Mum' reads it (quickly) because his anticipation and enjoyment is obvious, which is all part of the process. Although his language is not yet perfect, his beginning sounds can be expressed along with other intonations. This opportunity is priceless for all children - share stories and spend time reading.

This is a great video - his enjoyment and anticipation is a joy to watch. My son (who has albinism, VA 6/60+1) was very visually interested from a young age and loved looking at books and recognising signs and symbols. He is now getting ready for high school and reads pretty much anything and everything. I love that we were able to work together to build a strong love of reading from the beginning.

I've always read to my girls. They absolutely love it, now whenever we are out they gravitate towards the book section rather than the toy section.

Just gorgeous. A friend of mine has read to your child for years since birth and speaks absolutely perfectly. She so intelligent and is such a special child. Her sister has adopted the same philosophy and her child is speaking beautifully.. I agree reading is such an awesome thing for children.

I love everything about this. I started reading to my daughter from the day she was born. She's 13 and is an avid reader. So much so, that she was awarded an honor for it at the end of the school year last year. Sure beats video games!
