General
Eyes and Independence supports children, families and adults; and is the first provider to offer specialist teachers for children and adults with a vision impairment, orientation and mobility challenges, and/or additional disabilities. Support can be provided outside of school hours, in the evening, in the workplace or local community, at child care centres, or at a location that best suits the individual and their family. Some of the services we provide include:
NDIS
Eyes and Independence has now officially met the Human Services Quality Framework (HSQF) for NDIS Registration in the following categories:
As part of the Human Services Quality Framework, it is a requirement to hold Business 'Policies'. These can be accessed on our site, once you or your family member becomes a client. Eyes and Independence supports children, families and adults; and is the first provider to offer specialist teachers for children and adults with a vision impairment, orientation and mobility challenges, and/or additional disabilities. - Early intervention
- Transition (home, school, community and workplace)
- Advice and familiarisation with vision aids and technology
- Technology assistance (including Apple products)
- Assistive Technology (AT) reports for NDIS
- Family support and training following diagnosis
- Specialised assessments for learning media (braille, large print, audio)
- Vision screening for young children
- Assistance and training with daily living and general life skills
- Orientation and mobility training (including cane skills)
- Braille teaching, support and tutoring
- Training staff in the workplace (for employers and employees)
- Simulated vision loss activities (including experiences under blindfolds)
- Educational presentations to groups, schools, workplaces and communities
- Skype/Zoom sessions (by negotiation) and school visits (with approval)

Fees and Charges
NDIS Rate:
$170 per hour - this new rate is the first time there has been an increase since the business opened.
(plus 1/2 hour travel cost only if the distance travelled from base to location takes longer than a half hour)
Better Start Rate:
$160 per hour (in Moreton Bay and the Sunshine Coast, Better Start is still available to children who are not under NDIS, so long as they meet the Better Start criteria) Since COVID19, Better Start has now been further extended till March 2021. For more information, contact your provider.
JOB ACCESS Rate:
$170 per hour - Orientation & Mobility within the workplace
